Enmity of the Object

A Poem

Faced with the frightening
the skull that erupts in
tandem with the disoriented will
the caustic grief
coming off the static tonality
of the distance you’d covered
with the draping of conscience
and other weeds
coming down
for sentences and other
lashings
wounded but feeling
heat from the world
too
ordinary in the explicable
but taking strides
into the missing environment
hoping the altar
you built
is still there
